EXPLORE THE AREA

Know Before You Go

From mountain trails and cultural experiences to local cafés, farms, and hot springs, some of the region’s best is right outside your door when you stay at Hitching Post Motel. We’ve gathered our favourite things to see, do, and experience in Líl’wat Territory and the wider Sea-to-Sky so you can make the most of your time here.

CULTURAL EXPERIENCES

Líl'wat7úl Culture Centre

A few minutes along Lillooet Lake Road, the Líl'wat7úl Culture Centre brings together language, art, and lived experience under one roof. Guided by the principle of Nt'ákmen—"Our Way"—it's a space less about observing and more about participating. Drum making, carving, leatherwork, language classes, guided nature walks. Culture in Líl'wat isn't static. It's ongoing, and it's deliberately shared.

Lil'wat Nation Rodeo

Held each spring at the Lillooet Lake Rodeo Grounds, the Open Rodeo draws competitors and spectators from across the province. Bull riding, barrel racing, youth events—part competition, part celebration, it's a legacy event in our area.

Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Líl̓wat7úl Cultural Centre (SLCC)

Just down the road in Whistler, the SLCC offers an immersive window into the living cultures of the Squamish and Lil'wat Nations. Between May and September, the Interpretive Forest Walk is a highlight—an hour moving through the landscape with a Cultural Ambassador, learning about the plants, stories, and Indigenous knowledge rooted in this territory.

WHEN YOU VISIT

A little local knowledge can go a long way when you’re visiting the valley.

For up-to-date information on events, seasonal activities, and local recommendations, Tourism Pemberton is a great place to start. They share what’s happening around the community and can help you find experiences that match the time of year you’re visiting.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

On the Water & In the Wilderness

Make the trip out to Joffre Lakes—one of the most stunning hikes in the Sea-to-Sky, with glacier-fed turquoise water at every level of the trail. For something more remote, Sloquet Hot Springs is worth every kilometre of the drive. Soak in natural geothermal pools on the banks of the Lillooet River with nothing but forest around you. Go early, bring everything you need, and plan to stay a while.

Get Out & Explore

Lace up and hit the trails—there's something for every pace and ability level right on our doorstep. Book a guided horseback ride through the valley and take in the mountains at the pace they deserve. If golf is your thing, the Pemberton Valley has two stunning courses with views that make it hard to focus on your game. Ask us at the front desk and we'll help you sort out the details.

WINTER ADVENTURES

Hit the slopes at Whistler Blackcomb—just up the road and one of the largest ski resorts in North America—then come back to the quiet of Mount Currie at the end of the day. For something more off the beaten path, the backcountry terrain around Pemberton draws intermediate skiers and snowboarders from across the globe. Strap on snowshoes and explore the trails at a slower pace, or hire a local guide to take you somewhere most visitors never find. Ask us at the front desk and we'll point you in the right direction.
